Sharing Info
Below you will find all the info you will need to share your observations, including the Captains Innovation Lab Scope.
If this page doesn't answer your questions, then you can 'Ask the Lab' through the chat function on the bottom right.

What to Share
We want your observations!
The Captains Innovation Lab simplifies the innovation process, and is open to all Captains to share an observation you see could be an opportunity for innovation!
We want to capture those moments of reflection on the way back from a ward round or during a team debrief at the end of a day. We want the start of conversations. Your observations, your wonderings, and curiosities - any opportunities you have spotted for doing something differently. We want you to share these observations so that we can create change that adds value for the kids that you meet.
As Einstein once said - “In the lab environment, there are no silly observations.” 1935
The Captains Innovation Lab believes that the impact of the innovation should always benefit the customer, as Captain Starlight’s, your customers are the kids!
Starting with observations will allow us to explore and experiment with a broader range of possibilities. The end result could be a tangible tool, some top-up training, or a piece of actionable advice – we won’t know until we experiment.
Examples of observations
-
I wonder if there’s a better way to end interactions on Rocket Rounds…
-
I’ve noticed that it’s tricky to engage kids that are already in a heightened state.
-
Can we do more to support kids with sensory needs?
-
I’ve seen that there’s a lot of waste from our craft rooms
-
I’m curious as to why non-verbal communication isn’t part of the Captain onboarding process.
-
We have a lot of kids in isolation at the moment, I feel like we could do more for them.
-
Last week I created an engaged group activity in the games room, and I wonder why it worked.
How to Share

You can share your observation in writing, or record and upload a video or voice memo, or even take a photo of your observation written on the back of a napkin like an inspired inventor!

If you would like to talk through your observation before sharing with the Captains Innovation Lab, then get in touch with us through the chat function in the bottom right and we’ll reply ASAP. Your message is important to us, you are next in the queue.
When to Share
Much like a popular fast-food restaurant, the Captains Innovation Lab is always open to hear your observations (perhaps without the over-tired and surly teenagers taking your order!).
You can share your observations with us at any time, however wehave 'Curiosity Eras' during which observations will be immediately acted upon. Between these periods, we will keep your observation warm in the Lab incubator.

If you’ve observed ‘it’ – we can innovate ‘it’!
'What is ‘it’?'
A poem from the Lab.
‘It’ is something you’ve noticed.
Something you’ve thought.
Something you’ve questioned.
Something you’ve sought.
If ‘it’ could be changed
It would add value and be fab.
Have you got an ‘it’?
Share it with the Lab!
